How Did Midwestern Lesbian Begin?

I created Midwestern Lesbian by chance. I truly fell into the idea of posting weekly queer calendars from working on the marketing team at Rhinegeist Brewery and creating weekly calendars for the company. I created the Instagram handle @Midwestern.Lesbian to save the name, just in case I wanted to use it for something. I had my TikTok account @MidwesternLesbian already and just loved the name.

During my time at Rhinegeist, I helped create the Halloween Drag Show in 2021. It was the first drag show that Rhinegeist had ever done, and as a queer person, I was incredibly excited to work on this project. The event was one of the busiest Rhinegeist has ever had. It was so successful and I was so proud. Not long after the event, I was approached by Hard Rock Casino in Cincinnati about doing a drag brunch in their café. I had never put an event together on my own, so I was so confused when they presented this idea to me! I thought the meeting they asked for, was just to get name recommendations for local drag performers. So, when they asked me to be in charge of the whole thing, I was so nervous but SO excited.

When the drag brunches at Hard Rock started, I started promoting the events on my Midwestern Lesbian Instagram, and not long afterwards, began making the weekly calendars of the weekly LGBTQ+ events. The people seemed to love it, so I continued to do it. Even though the drag brunches at the Hard Rock stopped once football season began, I continued to work with local businesses to bring more LGBTQ+ events to Cincinnati.

Now I'm here, almost two years later and I'm so glad that a quick idea became so much more to so many people. Thank you to my followers and the people who continue to work with me, this is truly the thing I am the most proud of in my life.
